Experimental Studies on Histopathological Changes of Stomach Following Various Type of Portacaval Shunts

Abstract
As a research for portal decompression, side to side, end to side and H-type Portacaval shunts were performed on 15 mongorel adult dogs, and the auther observed changes of liver function test and histopathological changes of stomach after various shunt operations.
The results are as follows.
1. In liver function tests, impairment of hepatic function was observed. Serum globulin, alkaline phosphatase and G.O.T. were increased in all shunt groups, but more marked increment was seen in side to side and H-type portacaval shunt groups.
2. After various portacaval shunt operations, histopathological changes of stomach were atrophy of mucosa, erosion of mucosa, ulceration, intestinalization and inflammation. In side to side and H-type portacaval shunt groups, more marked histopathological changes were observed in comparison with end to side portacaval shunt group.
Goblet cells appeared in side to side and H-type portacaval shunt groups, but not appeared in end to side portacaval shunt group.
3. To condense as a whole, the auther could not observe any particular changes of liver function test and histopathological changes of stomach in end to side portacaval shunt groups as compared with side to side and H-type portacaval shunt groups.
